The Islamic Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaat of Toronto (ISIJ) aims to raise awareness of the plight of the children in Iraq. Working with the World Federation which is an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations
- The WF provides education, healthcare, nutrition and accommodation for orphans
- £16 000 raised in a London Tube Collection in 2005 was used to sponsor 66 orphans for one academic year.
- £14 750 raised in a London Tube Collection in 2008 was used to sponsor 30 orphans for 2 academic years.
According to The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs there are 4.5 million children orphans in Iraq
- Approximately 70% lost their parents due to the war
- 600, 000 children are living in the streets without food
- Only 700 children are living in orphanages

UNICEF estimates
- 4.5 million children are under-nourished.
- One child in 10 is under-weight.
- One in five is short for their age.
- In some areas, up to 90 per cent of children are not in school.
